WHAT IS AN INSIGHTFUL OBSERVATION?

The Guide to Laughing Institute honors those selected to be in the books for their wit and wisdom, for helping others laugh and learn about life, and for the impact they have had on our culture.
How Insightful Observations Are Chosen
The insightful observations have been selected based on the unique perspective they offer, for how concisely they convey wit and wisdom on a given topic, and for their balance of humor, irony, and the unvarnished truth.

Because insightful humor comes in many forms, the observations contained in the books are broken out into three primary viewpoints: the IDEALIST, the REALIST, and the CYNIC. Next to each observation in the books you will see an icon or emoticon that denotes the attitude and perspective of the expert, as it relates to the topic.

The Idealist: An optimist, one who is predisposed to a positive outcome; the idealist finds humor in picturesque fantasies and delights in romantic expectations.

The Realist: One who is inclined to finding a literal truth. They employ humor that sheds light on a practical way of approaching or assessing a situation or of solving a problem.

The Cynic: One who instinctively questions or disagrees with assertions or generally accepted conclusions. A person of wit, who negatively focuses on the incongruities of life and seems to enjoy it.
